In the last few weeks, I have written quite often about difficult topics. Of course, they do exist and they are part of our lives. We have to learn to deal with them.
Focusing too much on difficulties is not exactly motivating. You can get a totally distorted view of the world. If you look at the news, you might think that nothing good is happening anymore. But the opposite is true!
Think for a few minutes and write down what good things have happened to you in the last two or three weeks or what “good news” you’ve heard from others…
For example, I can think of this:
- My kids – simply because they are great kids
- the trip to an amusement park together
- the sunny weather
- the weekend in Salzburg with my wonderful wife for our wedding anniversary
- a warm house
- having something to eat and drink every day without having to think about it too much
- Founding our association “Die Tasche”
- having fun at work (most of the time;-))
- my friends in Germany/ Austria/ Uganda
- my fellow believers
- a rich fruit harvest
- …
Some people think that this is perhaps coincidence, fate, karma or something else. I think that I can feel a lot of God’s grace. I am very grateful for this, because I know that I don’t really deserve this grace. But that is the secret of God’s grace: it is simply given by Him out of love, even though we humans are sinners.

When I think of mercy and grace, the song „Mercy is falling“ by David Ruis comes to mind:
Mercy is falling, is falling, is falling.
by David Ruis 1994
Mercy it falls like the sweet spring rain.
Mercy is falling, is falling all over me.
When you think about it like that, it is refreshing to realize how well off you are. The fact that God sent Jesus to pay our deserved debt is also the abundant grace of God. He didn’t have to do that: Just like the Israelites over two thousand years ago, we would have had to make sacrifices for our guilt so that we could stand before God. But He pays the price Himself because He loves us.
The LORD is merciful and gracious, his patience is great and his love boundless!
Psalm 103:8
But I may come to you, for in your great mercy you have accepted me. With reverence I worship you in your sanctuary.
Psalm 5:8
Sin has lost its power over you. For you are no longer bound by the law, but live by the grace of God.
Romans 6:14
David sent Heman, Jeduthun and other singers with the priests to Gibeon. They were to praise the LORD there with their songs, so that his mercy would never cease.
1 Chronicles 16:41
For the LORD is good to us, his mercy never ceases; he is faithful to us forever.
Psalm 100:5

I wish YOU
I wish for you that you may feel much of God’s grace in your life, that you – no matter what the circumstances – always keep an eye on the good in your life and that God richly blesses you!
And when you experience good things, share them with others and encourage them. Thank God for this and pray for those who are not doing well.
I wish you grace and peace from God our Father and from Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 Corinthians 1:3
