Share your bread with the hungry, take in the homeless, and if you meet someone walking around in rags, give them clothes! Help where you can and don’t close your eyes to the needs of your fellow human beings!
Isaja 58:7
How it came about…
During our stay in Uganda in the summer of 2023, we took a day trip to Jinja at the source of the Nile. We walked down from Prayer Mountain with a couple we knew to the fishing village of Kikondo. Right through the bush, past houses and along the beautiful red roads. We white people were an attraction for the kids there and over time we had a few in tow. Many of them only had old and torn clothes on and the huts there are not luxury buildings. Elisa, our eldest daughter, noticed this and asked if we could buy T-shirts and pants for children in Jinja. We then took a boat across the lake – with a detour to the source of the Nile – and bought some clothes there, which we distributed on the way back. It was an exciting experience.
I distributed Bibles in the lodges and to friends during our stay. The idea was to combine this and „pimp“ it up a bit. The result was „The bag“.

What we have in mind…
As a first step, we simply want to give people – especially children – in Uganda a helping hand. A kind of small emergency aid. The second step is to make a lasting impact. But we’re not there yet. We still have to think about that…
We buy most things in Uganda. Makes sense 😉
The kids receive a cotton bag with these contents:
- T-shirt + shorts. Each set is made locally by the tailor Likamob from Kasese. We get the fabric from Jane Kamya.
- Maize flour, salt, sugar, beans and rice. These foods are easy to store and are staple foods. They come from local farmers and markets.
- A Bible. God’s word in Luganda, English or Swahili.
- Christian children’s books (unfortunately only in English, but with lots of pictures).
- Writing materials: pens, exercise books
- Something to play with
- Hygiene articles: Toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, plasters, gauze bandages
